The Master Cleanse in More Ways Than One.

Ok. So, if I had to pick one of my worst faults, it would be: PROCRASTINATION. That, and cursing. I think the way I have been viewing this blog was something as another obligation; something to turn in at the end of the day like an assignment at school. I am back with a whole new outlook on this blog. Same name, different view. It may be with the whole New Year's Resolution coming, but also with the overwhelming popularity of FB (facebook for the newbies), I am searching for a sense of refreshment through one of my most favorite, but long lost hobbies: writing. Don't worry, fashion and food will still be the purpose of this blog, but it will be more of a vessel for me to record my own thoughts and opinions in a more casual way- sans facebook updates (Thank GOD). Duh, a blog. No more updating deep thoughts or frustration on FB- don't lie, you know it gets annoying! And, who knows who's reading this, but like I said, this blog is now for me, and if anyone should choose to read, please do. Otherwise, mind your business and you can click onto the next one.

With that said, one reason I decided to restart this whole thing is that I have been traveling quite a bit lately. And if you know me, you know I absolutely love well prepared, local food. (Hopefully I can find pics to update) Within the past 3 months, I have been everywhere from San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento, Seattle, LA, Tahoe, and back to San Diego- some places revisited more than once. So...with traveling comes trying out new restaurants, and with restaurants, come indulging in delicious food, and with delicious food comes....WEIGHT GAIN. UGH! Though I have given up meat for the past year with the movement (and trauma) of The Kind Life and Food Inc., please don't get it twisted- I have still been to probably some of the most delicious restaurants various cities are famous for and man...does my body feel the difference. I admit, I am one of those girls that might obsess over weight from time to time, but seriously, this time an intervention is in order! I had heard from a coworker about a little diet/lifestyle changer that some of you may have heard of called, The Master Cleanse Diet. Yes, it may have a reputation for being a bit extreme (its a frickin' liquid diet for the love of God), but my coworker claims that it has been working and some celebrities such as a certain Pussy Cat Doll or a certain Independent Woman with a nice looking booty are famous for using it. And, who doesn't want abs or booties like these chicks??

So. There it is. I am resurrecting my blog that was pretty much dead to the world (and to me) with a new outlook in life and a new change in my diet. I will record daily how things are going through my journey and hopefully it'll be a dramatic change. 10 days and in 7, I am again, flying back home for my bff's graduation for her Master's in Nursing. I am not looking to become stick thin in 10 days, let alone, 7, but I am hoping to feel a lot better than I do right now. So, wish me luck...Let's see how it goes! Onto the store I go to pick up the the ingredients to my Master Cleanse kit!

Exit Through the Gift Shop

I was lucky enough to catch the screening for Banksy's film "Exit Through the Gift Shop" with WIRED Magazine in San Francisco in the Embarcadero. The film included admirable street artists Shepard Fairey who is widely known for his tags all across the world, to the infamous Obama "Hope"portrait, Space Invader whose work consisted of space invader murals made from rubics cubes, Mr. Brainwash, and Banksy himself whose identity remained private throughout the documentary... and more.

I thought the documentary was extremely genius and influential. The film not only followed the talented artists around their everyday life, but their nightlife of tagging and just putting up their artwork around large cities, but it included humor, friendship, trust, and passion. The different artists would travel all around the world, find the best location and walls to show their artwork, and go through the risk of putting up unique and creative pieces in public. To them this was all about the adrenaline, fun, and happiness that was brought to them while expressing themselves, but to others their artwork was seen as $$$ and would pay up to $200,000 for some of their work.

DEFINITELY DEFINITELY a movie that EVERY artist MUUUUST see. It was mad insane to see how talented these people are and how much thought they put into their every move. People definitely take art and graffiti for granted but I guarantee you after watching this film you're going to want to tag SOMETHING.

For sure this sparked a lot of ideas and now I just need to get off my butt and pursue them.
Peep a few of my favorite pieces of artwork by the artists featured in the film..ENJOY!

The Food So Nice They Named it Twice.

Been trying to explore the world of a vegetarian for the last few months and I must admit it's been challenging at times to go out and find food that excludes meat- and isn't a salad. So, I've pretty much found it easier to get my ass in the kitchen and make something. This was the case last night when I was craving for something a little ethnic, but easy. Thus, Curry Couscous was born...well, after much improvisations due to lack of ingredients...and pretty much straight up laziness on my part, that is. Here goes the method to my madness, aka the recipe:

First, I started with a drizzle of EVOO (extra virgin olive oil for the noobs, haha) once around the pan. Add 1 tbs butter, half a diced onion and cook through. Next, I added 1 1/2 tbs (roughly) curry powder and 1 tbs coriander, cook through quickly, then add 1 1/2 cups water (chicken broth if you're feeling frisky...or have it on hand unlike me). Once the water comes to a boil, add 1 1/2 cups couscous. Stir once, remove from heat and cover tightly for 10-15mins, then fluff with fork.

Next, I added frozen peas and a can of red beans, strained and rinsed (chickpeas were ideal, but I worked with what I had, sorry), and the juice of one lemon. Stir together and tightly cover.

While the couscous sits, in another sauce pan, drizzle once around pan EVOO and heat through. Sauté half an onion- diced. Once onions cook through, add half a bottle of mango chutney (found in specialty food shops; got mine from Trader Joe's) and simmer until sauce rethickens. Add a pinch of salt to bring out flavor.

Finally, combine couscous into pan with sayce and Bon appetit!
Yum-a-e-i-o-u!

A Look Into Fall

Richard Nicoll has definitely revived French tailoring label, Cerruti, in my opinion. LOVE his use of different textures, giving his outfits the ultimate layer appeal, and the colors are the epitome of Fall!

Hellz Bellz Spring 2010: Obsessed With You

Seductive, hard, and modern. Hellz Bellz simplistic silhouettes are complimented by the minimal color story, and chic trims featured in the Spring 2010 collection. The mood of the theme is definitely portrayed through the dark make up, bold accessories, and black and white exposures. Well done Hellz Bellz. Now to get my grubby little hands on this collection...

Friday Night

My crazy Friday night. Instead of meeting some friends downtown for a night of debauchery, a friend and I decided to stay in and bake...lots of cupcakes.

The result: a bunch of new friends made from Yellow buttermilk cupcakes, Swiss Meringue, fondants, and candy. Good times.
